Netflix – David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet

With a lifelong career traveling the world spreading the joys of the natural world, its land and its oceans, David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet is the naturalist’s emotional and personal perspective of humanity’s impact on nature and the planetary change created over time.

Having lived throughout most of the 20th Century and experienced world wars, globalization, a rising and aging population, but most importantly the loss of the world’s natural habitat;  Life on Our Planet is David Attenborough’s personal account or ‘witness statement’ of this change.

DAVID ATTENBOROUGH’S SUSTAINABILITY WITNESS STATEMENT:

Starting with his first experiences as a naturalist in his twenties the film demonstrates how humanity lost touch with nature, documenting the initial almost unnoticeable change being caused to nature around him. Passing through the many decades of his career, Sir David gives us his account of this period as the changes he encountered continue to expand – and this gradual environmental decline develops into broad, colossal damage; with animal populations plummeting, trees and environments lost, and a natural world never to be the same.

This film is a lesson in humanity’s ability to cause destruction and a warning that if we keep on our current path of deforestation, temperature increases, and population growth we risk damaging the Earth beyond the point of recovery, bringing dangers of vast extinctions to wildlife and ourselves alike. But Sir David does give us a cause for hope, presenting real positive solutions and changes we can make if we all choose to act. Whether it be rewilding nature or small individual habits we can make.

Without a doubt Sir David Attenborough’s broadest documentary to date, A Life on Our Planet presents an even more worldly view than his previous endeavors on BBC’s Planet Earth and Blue Planet. No more is it simply about a certain specifies, a country or a continent – now it’s about Planetary survival – Following more so in the footsteps of documentaries such as Al Gores, ‘The Inconvenient Truth’ and Leonardo DiCaprio’s, ‘The Flood’.

The documentary cements Sir David Attenborough’s position further as one, if not the leading voice in sustainability and environmental activism. It’s one of the most eye-opening and emotional documentaries to pass our screens in 2020. One that we all need to watch, listen to, be influenced by, but more importantly, act upon.
